About gtnconcept.com
The past and present

Gtnconcept was started in 2006 after numerous issues with my previous free-hosted wesbite, geek.tech.nu. Gtnconcept is a place where I showcase my work, most of which is also made available for download. Some of the more popular items here include a selection of iTunes related skins and a slowly growing number of desktop wallpapers.

Currently this site is simply a temporary set of pages to give users easy access to previous downloads. Hopefully in time this site will return to its WordPress-based roots, where visitors can feel free to leave comments and ask questions. Until then, I hope you enjoy the new site layout and the old downloads.

Hosting comes courtesy of BlueHost, who provide a reliable shared-hosting service at a nice price. Their hosting package comes free with a domain name, automatically renewed for the life of the account.

About William Lay
a.k.a. gtn... a.k.a. geektechnu...

I currently live and work in Melbourne, Australia, where I teach at Monash University. It's good work which lets me stay in touch with my skills, while giving me enough free time to work on my own small personal projects. I'm pretty much what you would describe to be a "jack of all trades, master of some". There are a lot of things I can do well, but these days I find myself spending an increasing amount of time in Photoshop.

In my spare time I enjoy watching Simpsons re-runs on free-to-air TV, as well as making minimal progress teaching myself how to play guitar.

You may recognize me from some of the avatars I use:

I'm a nice guy - I love to help people and enjoy a chat every now and then, so feel free to contact me.

Frequently Asked Questions
And other things of interest

Q. What software do you use?
A. All of my code is lovingly hand-coded in a text editor. Depending on the time of year, the actual program may change, but fast loading is a must. Syntax highlighting is a nice bonus. Aside from coding, I use Adobe Photoshop CS for image creation and editing, and Macromedia Flash for quick previsualization of layout and color schemes.

Q. What hardware do you use?
A. An Athlon64 3500+ machine made mostly from a series of well-timed purchases. My last upgrade was a Dell 2405fpw. I also keep an old 12" iBook G3 800 on hand for work and hot days. A have a cheap 12" x 9" graphics tablet for occasional photo work. A Sony NW-HD1 serves my portable music needs.

Q. Why doesn't your iTunes skin work?
A. It does. Make sure you're using the correct versions of iTunes and Multi-Plugin. Everything you need to know about Multi-Plugin is at Aqua-Soft.org.
